SAMCT Degree Show 2025

As part of my work for the communications team, I met the BA Graphic Design students who created the code that inspired the branding for Salford's annual degree show. This is an opportunity for third year students to showcase their final projects.

Maxwell Hall: Digital archive reveals unseen photos from venue's most historic concerts

In March, I was asked to put together a video promoting the Maxwell Hall archives.

Three years after Maxwell Hall first opened, Dave Berry & The Cruisers were the first to hit the stage. Since then, Maxwell Hall hosted many legendary british bands.

Now, these artists have returned in a digital resurgence, as part of the University of Salford’s efforts to collect and digitalize never-before-seen memorabilia. This will featuring some of the greatest artists of the 20th century, including The Smiths, Blondie, The Who and U2.

Saving the Electric: the decline of independent cinema

As part of my master's in broadcast journalism, I created a feature on The Electric cinema that was recently closed in Birmingham, and the group of campaigners trying to save it.

A couple of weeks ago, the electric cinema was denied status as a listed building. After showing blockbusters for over a century, the brummie community wonder what can be done to revive this incredible theatre.

Jess Blissitt reports.

Has Flytipping increased the Bin Issue in Birmingham? - QuaysNews

As part of my master's, I reported on the bin strikes in Birmingham. I interviewed former Councillor Martin Mullaney and Friend of Earth representative John Newson.

Two months since the bin workers walked out, Unite have rejected a deal from Birmingham City Council, leaving the city in a stinky stalemate.

As the piles grow, more and more people seem to be adding bizarre items to their rubbish. Jess Blissitt Reports.

Quantum Live - Richard Evans unveils immersive audio experience

Most recently, I was invited to Salford's MediaCityUK campus to watch an immersive audio showcase from electropop artist Richard Evans. Richard performed a number of songs before holding a Q&A discussion and listening party for his new album, Quantum.

The showcase has been dubbed as 'the future of live music performance' as it blends spatial audio and 3D technology with the musician's performance.

Student says Asian Media Awards Scholarship changed her life

As one of my final projects as a Communications Assistant with the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology, I spoke to Fazeela Munshi, the first recipient of a new scholarship between the Asian Media Awards and Salford University. The scholarship was aimed at low-income households, and Fazeela's story provided a raw and honest perspective of how she was able to focus on her stories instead of working late hours to provide for her mum and youngest sister. This story was then mentioned in the Asian Express, Asia Image and the Lancashire Telegraph.
